The potential for bacteriological
contamination is ever-present.
No matter how rigorously your
hygiene policies are applied, and
however well-trained your staff, when
large numbers of people gather
together it only takes one moment
of carelessness by a customer or staff
member for there to be a problem in
the making.
Some sections of the community
are particularly at risk. The young,
the old and people in hospital
are highly vulnerable to infection.
Something that would only be a
minor, possible even unnoticed
infection in a healthy adult can have
devastating consequences in those
whose immune system is depressed.
Add in the increasing resistance
of various bacteria to established
decontamination methods and
the situation is, as anyone with
responsibility for facility cleanliness
knows, potentially extremely serious.
IGT Industries' new material is a
high quality textured polyester
film with antimicrobial protection
incorporated into the film during
the manufacturing process. It can
be screen printed and embossed
without degrading its antimicrobial
performance. The antimicrobial
agent is uniformly distributed
throughout the base material, so
abrasion caused by routine cleaning
and scratching through accidental
damage does not diminish the
material's effectiveness. |
It works by disrupting the bacterial
cell wall, affecting the ability of
the bacteria to reproduce, thereby
inhibiting growth or killing the
contamination.
There is no evidence of resistant
strain development and the material
will not irritate the skin and is nonsensitising.
The material has been independently
tested to AATCC Test Method 100
and is confirmed as being effective
against a range of bacteria, fungi and
moulds:
- MRSA
- E.coli 0157
- Listeria monocytogenes
- Pseudomonas aeruginosa
- Salmonella spp
- Bacillus cereus
- Strepococcus faecalis
- Klebsiella spp
- Aspergillus niger
- Penicillium purpurogenum
- Phoma violacea
- Sacch.Cerevisiae
